John has performed with ensembles and as a soloist throughout the United States, South America, Europe, and Asia. Orchestral performances include the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Netherlands Symphony Orchestra, National Opera/Ballet (Netherlands), Detroit Symphony Orchestra, St. Louis Symphony, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Boston Pops Brass, Jacksonville Symphony, The Florida Orchestra, and the Disney World Orchestra among many others. In chamber music, John was previously a member of the Amsterdam Brass Quintet and the Netherlands Symphony Brass Quintet, and has performed with Ebony Band, and the Rodney Marsalis Philadelphia Big Brass. He is currently a member of the Monumental Brass Quintet.

John William Banther is Production Manager and an on-air host for Classical WETA, in Washington DC. He can be heard Monday evenings from 8:00-12:00, and is also a host for Viva la Voce. John hosts Front Row Washington every Monday evening at 9pm, which features local concerts and recitals in the Washington area of some of the most prominent names in classical music. John produces programs for Classical WETA, including National Symphony Orchestra Showcase, Front Row Washington, and Classical Breakdown. John also gives preconcert talks for the National Symphony Orchestra.

As an educator, John was previously an Adjunct Professor of Tuba at the Washington Adventist University and created a competitive private studio in the DC area. John has presented masterclasses at the George Mason University, the University of South Florida, Jackson State University, Gardner Webb University, Emory and Henry College, Indiana State University South Bend, University of Nebraska–Lincoln, Penn State Erie, Projecto Guri, and public schools throughout the United States. John graduated from the New England Conservatory of Music, studying with Mike Roylance, and the Amsterdam Conservatory, the Netherlands, studying with Perry Hoogendijk.
