John Banther has performed with ensembles and as a soloist throughout the United States and Europe, and in South America and Asia. Orchestral performances include the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Netherlands Symphony Orchestra, National Opera/Ballet (Netherlands), the National Symphony Orchestra (USA), Detroit Symphony Orchestra, St. Louis Symphony, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Boston Pops Brass, Jacksonville Symphony, The Florida Orchestra, and the Disney World Orchestra (Epcot) among many others. In chamber music, they were previously a member of the Amsterdam Brass Quintet and the Netherlands Symphony Brass Quintet, and has performed with Ebony Band, the Rodney Marsalis Philadelphia Big Brass, and is currently a member of the Monumental Brass Quintet.

John is Production Manager and an on-air host for WETA Classical and Viva la Voce, in Washington DC. They host and produce Front Row Washington every Monday evening at 9pm, which features local concerts in the Washington area of some of the most prominent names in classical music, and can be heard hosting various shifts on Viva la Voce (HD2). They also host and produce Classical Breakdown, and produce National Symphony Orchestra Showcase. John has also given preconcert talks for the National Symphony Orchestra, Washington Performing Arts, and Chiarina Chamber Players.

As an educator, John was previously an Adjunct Professor of Tuba at the Washington Adventist University and created a competitive private studio in the DC area. They have presented masterclasses at George Mason University, the University of South Florida, Jackson State University, Gardner Webb University, Emory and Henry College, Indiana State University South Bend, University of Nebraska–Lincoln, Penn State Erie, and public schools throughout the United States. John graduated from the New England Conservatory of Music, and the Amsterdam Conservatory, the Netherlands (studies with Perry Hoogendijk).

John was also the founder of The Story Behind The Music, where they interviewed Dutch musicians and streamed concerts (2010-2012) to thousands of people worldwide from the New England Conservatory, Boston University, Conservatorium van Amsterdam, and their solo/duo concert with Kat Vipers at the Amsterdam Blue Note (CvA).

On recording, John can be heard in the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra/Mariss Jansons release of R. Strauss - Also Spruce Zarathustra, as a soloist and member of the Amsterdam Brass Quintet in the album "Experimental Brass," and on select tracks of Boston String Quartet's album "Xibus."
